Media Blog Reflection

Image
Media Blog Reflection I've always had what I thought of as a normal consumption of media apart from adds on tv and others around Sacramento my lack of social media has limited it a lot. This I think is a good thing because a a n unhealthy consumption of media leads people to start to believe anything they read, hear, see instead of having a normal skepticism surrounding ads. I realize that often I find myself on my phone instead of doing homework of studying which I tend to regret later so looking at my bad habits and trying to fix this has helped. I look at ads now differently, analyzing their use of the consumers emotions than actually taking note of what the ad is trying to get me to do, which in some ways in good because I can be less fooled but false advertising but, in another way, you lose the magic behind any ads such as Disney and other childhood brands. As I said I’ve been trying to work on not using my phone as much watching less of the little amount of TV ...

Harry Potter

Image
Harry Potter The Harry Potter books gave children an excuse to read, they created a book meant for all ages, because the selection of children books is so limited this gave them a chance to read something new and never seen before which interested people. The basis of the story was something different wizards weren't a common topic in books so to make up a whole world was fantastic. The books themselves were well done and a page turner. There aren't many parents I know who haven't read them we have all 7 in our bookcase, almost 37 percent of kids in the US have read them. They inspired a new genre of readers. It interested people who previously disliked reading. Following this came the help, hunger games, the books thief all wonderful novels. People could then see it being put on the big screen and see all their favorite characters must've been an inspiring thing. Harry Potter has a place in most of our childhood as was something new and different that hadn't ...

Misrepersentation: Superwoman

Image
Misrepresentation Misrepresentation is a documentary featuring how media has affected views on viewers. It talks about women and their role as well as men, because are both most often not accurate to reality. In the theme of misrepresentation and girls I've often seen a flow of new superhero movies but a common theme I see in all of them is either the number of females or how they're portrayed. All of them are in either low cut or skin-tight clothing and more often they have a love interest. I’m not suggesting that these actors should be forced to wear different outfits because the basis of superheroes is retrospectively skin-tight suits but the fact, they've always been portrayed in comics with curvy bodies is yet another way girl see an unrealistic ideal.  There are so many few shows were the woman aren't in love, while the idea of superwoman is ideal and for young girls seeing it on the big screen is a big toward more positivity but it seems were not tot...

The Midriff

Image
The Midriff The midriff is a caricature who has become prematurely adolescent to fit in with her society most often, she is mostly portrayed as caring for her looks because it's one of her most important assets. While midriffs have been becoming more and more popular girls are now growing up too early because of their desire to be sexualized. We can see in shows that gorgeous actresses are being hired to play average people changing people's views of the average American because a citizen and a character on a show are so different. I've seen that a show that also uses midriffs is Riverdale. While all the characters are supposed to be sophomores, they were actually 25 and 24 which meant of course they looked much older than the sophomore they were supposed to be. The show even starts off with Archie having an affair with his teacher we may not think about it but he's most likely 15 when this happens while it’s not impractical to be sexually active at this a...

The Women of Madmen

Image
The Woman Of Madmen In the first episode of madmen we are introduced to three crucial characters Peggy, Betty, and Joan all very different in their own ways. Betty Draper the housewife is committed to creating the perfect image no matter how one dimensional it is. But this idea of hers is what ultimately makes her unhappy, she can't admit to herself that this perfect life isn't making her happy.  Betty is focused on her appearance as she is very pretty, she considered it one of her most important assets. This ideal comes from her own mother who passed it along to her and ever since she's been pursuing it. Betty tries to do the same for her own daughter, as she pushes sally's need for makeup and hairdos to make her "prettier" as to get a man. Betty doesn't change because the society around her treats her different for her beauty and she loves it. But the viewers don't really want anything to change because Don and Betty look so perfect toget...
