Misrepersentation: Superwoman
Misrepresentation
Misrepresentation is a
documentary featuring how media has affected views on viewers. It talks about
women and their role as well as men, because are both most often not accurate
to reality. In the theme of misrepresentation and girls I've often seen a flow
of new superhero movies but a common theme I see in all of them is either the number
of females or how they're portrayed. All of them are in either low cut or skin-tight
clothing and more often they have a love interest. I’m not suggesting that
these actors should be forced to wear different outfits because the basis of superheroes
is retrospectively skin-tight suits but the fact, they've always been portrayed
in comics with curvy bodies is yet another way girl see an unrealistic ideal.
There are so many few shows were the woman aren't in love, while the idea of
superwoman is ideal and for young girls seeing it on the big screen is a big
toward more positivity but it seems were not totally there, take black widow
for example she's an amazing fighter strong, but then she falls in love with
the hulk, it's one of those things I’ve never thought the movie needed because
they were fine on their own but seeing as the rest of the characters had love interests
I guess it seemed necessary. or mantis from guardian galaxy she seemed to immediately
become the love interest of Drax. I’ve just always felt the ways the supermen and
women were so different. While it turns, they really shouldn’t be their both superheroes
why couldn’t they just do their job without falling in love. Women have been
very misrepresented in superheroes comics and media, they’re presented with unrealistic
standards. Girls should turn to there characters as role models but their
giving them the wrong idea they should be just taught to be strong, confident,
and love themselves but how can they when they don’t look like the pictures all
of them are incredibly fit but some people will never look like that in fact
almost all don’t so we should feature something different that they’ll be
better related too and can see a role model in.
I agree with this, and its never been changed the way we sexualize women in media. This is most likely due to the amount of men in the industry. Its become a common occurrence in daily life, we see it in movies, video games, news, and it makes it seem like their message or point of view is less relevant in comparison to how they look.
ReplyDeleteI think that superwomen are just a stereotype and that girls should just know that and do what they want to do. There is another stereotype that successful woman don't wear revealing clothing and that smart girls don't wear make up. I think that girls should know that and not get influenced so I don't think that it's a bad thing.
DeleteI agree with everything you said. Women have become so sexualized through the media. It's like women can't play a leading role unless they're good looking and wearing something revealing. And the idea you touched on about the actress always having a love interest is almost always true, I didn't really notice it until after the film. They could have created a really good leading role for a female but because we're so used to seeing people in movies with a love interest it's like the character is not complete without one.
